Appy to the NSF Graduate Research Fellows Program

The National Science Foundations's (NSF) Graduate Research Fellows Program (GRFP) recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who have demonstrated the potential to be high achieving scientists and engineers early in their careers. The program works to broaden participation in science and engineering of underrepresented groups, including women, minorities, persons with disabilities, and veterans. The five-year fellowship provides three years of financial support with an annual stipend of $37,000. Application deadlines for the 2024 program are based on the major field of study.

The program works to broaden participation in science and engineering of underrepresented groups, including women, minorities, persons with disabilities, and veterans. Eligibility:

To be eligible for an NSF GRFP Fellowship, at the time of application you must:
  • be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or permanent resident
  • intend to pursue a research-based master’s or Ph.D. program in a GRFP-supported field
  • be at an early stage in your graduate career
  • be enrolled in an eligible program at an accredited U.S. graduate institution, with a U.S. campus, by fall following selection
  • demonstrate an intent to pursue a career that includes teaching and research at a U.S. institution of higher education
  • have completed no more than one academic year of full-time graduate study, or the equivalent
Graduate students may submit only one application to the GRFP either in the first year or in the second year of graduate school.
