Chemistry grad student Sidharth Panda wins 2024 CSE Three-Minute Thesis

Chemistry Ph.D candidate Sidharth Panda took top honors in the recent CSE Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) competition for the presentation, "Fixing Genes with mRNA Packages." The second place award went to biomedical engineering Ph.D. student Melissa Walsh for "Engineering TriKEs Against Cancer," and the presentation "Breaking Barriers: Equity in Risk Prediction" by Nicole Kleman, a Ph.D. student in bioinformatics and computational biology, received the People's Choice Award. Panda will advance to the Universitywide competition on Friday, Nov. 15.

Postdocs to present research seminars at University of Minnesota Duluth

The University of Minnesota Twin Cities College of Science and Engineering (CSE) is starting a new postdoctoral researcher seminar program in collaboration with the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD). This new program is a great opportunity for postdocs to share their expertise with graduate students in Duluth and could lead to possible new research collaborations.

The College of Science and Engineering will host networking lunches for graduate students and postdocs to meet others from across the college and learn about various subjects of interest.

New tech policy class coming in spring 2025

The College of Science and Engineering and the Humphrey School have created a new Ethical Discussions in Science, Technology, and Engineering Policy one-credit course designed to be accessible to both policy students and science/engineering/technology students. The course is a great opportunity for students with an interest in tech policy. The course will be offered in spring 2025.

Save the date! The Arts, Sciences, and Engineering Graduate Commencement is scheduled for Thursday, May 8, 2025. The ceremony is for master’s, Ph.D., and postbaccalaureate certificate students in the College of Science and Engineering and the College of Liberal Arts.

This Student Spotlight shines on mechanical engineering graduate student Michaela Andrews whose research focuses on shape memory polymers (SMPs) and how changes in manufacturing or composition can yield new applications.
